Hey friends HEY! Cheers to a new week! This weekend was *gorgeous* in Colorado. Like 75 degrees and sunny, which was very much welcomed after a week of rain and snow! Sooo one thing I want to incorporate more of in my blog is casual office wear. This is a topic that hits close to home for me.

STORY TIME.

In case y’all don’t know this about me yet, I work as a structural engineer and have for about 4 years! In college, I majored in Civil Engineering and honestly never really noticed / cared about the lack of females in my major.. God blessed me with awesome roommates and girlfriends during college, so the fact that us girls majoring in civil were the minority was just a non-issue. I was always surrounded by awesome, confident gals who were excited about life!!

Fast forward to my first few months on the job in the “real world” (aka the office of a structural engineering firm haha.) There was one (!!!) other girl in the office and I honestly didn’t care one bit about that statistic, I was there for the work! That being said, I struggled to dress myself in a male dominated industry. Maybe that sounds stupid to y’all, but it’s intimidating when you’re living in a new place, working with new people, and getting used to a new lifestyle.

Thankfully, now I can look back and laugh. I used to buy pants that were a size too big so that my booty would be hidden. I wore oversized blouses so that no one could see my figure. Basically, I tried to make myself invisible. And I don’t blame myself at all.. it’s hard to know how to act / what to wear / who you are when you’re thrown into a new situation and don’t have a support system. (Backstory – I was new to town and didn’t know a soul when I moved to Boulder.)

This may seem like a random topic to you if you’ve never felt this way before. I simply wanted to share my experience with this because I remember Googling sooo many times “female structural engineer what to wear.” and feeling lost because all that came up in that search where scantily clad girl wearing a hard hat. LOL.

So my message to y’all today is this: wear what makes you feel confident and prepared for the job you are responsible for. But know at the end of the day, it’s your attitude towards your work that will make or break you as an employee! (I have to tell myself that every single day.)

On another note, how fun is this simple tank for summer?! It’s adorable with white denim or dark wash jeans. I’m excited to share this pair of Hudson’s with you because they’re NOT skinny jeans. They are a “cigarette ankle” fit (hello Audrey Hepburn) which IMO is perfect for the office. Not see through, very comfy, and all around a good fit.

Alrighty! That’s all for this Monday. I hope you find some motivation not only to be yourself at work, but to work hard and remember why you’re there.

White jeans and a simple blouse is my favorite spring office outfit! This tank is adorable with either white or dark denim!

Thanks for reading!

xoxo liz
