HAPPY FRIDAY!!! We’ve made it to the weekend and we are one day closer to Thanksgiving. One thing I always struggle with this time of year is my hair. Winters in Colorado can be so cold and dry – and is sure does take a toll on my hair! After much trial & error, I have established a hair routine that has saved me both time and money. I’m hoping y’all can take a little away from this post and save your hair from the ratty split ends that this time of year always seems to bring!
Before we get started – did you see my hair curling tutorial on Instagram? It’s saved to my highlights under “hair”, and I walk y’all through exactly how I curl my hair!

tips to keep your hair healthy & strong this winter:
- Find a shampoo & conditioner that works for your hair. (duh) I have had a great experience with this combo, and I’ve been using those products for probably 2-3 years now.
- On that note, don’t be afraid to mix it up! Sometimes I use this shampoo & conditioner, and it’s definitely helped my hair feel stronger. Once a week, I always follow up my shampoo with…
- A hair mask is so important if you want your hair to be nourished, feel healthier, and look shinier. I swear by this one, and as I mentioned above, using it once a week is plenty!
- Every job is easier with the right tool. A wide tooth comb is a great way to untangle your hair without pulling on it too hard. For a long time, I was using the wrong brush, and it was causing SO much breakage! I have had great luck with this comb!
- As tempting as it can be, don’t wash your hair every day. Washing that frequently can really dry your hair out, which is why I use dry shampoo! It allows me to go 2-3 days between washes, which is also a HUGE time saver. Shop my favorites here & here.
- Get your hair cut every 2-3 months. Recently, I went 6 months between hair cuts, and I had to get 3″ taken off to make sure all the dead ends were knocked off! Getting your hair trimmed more frequently ensures your hair STAYS healthy all year long. Denver / Boulder gals, check out West End Salon if you’re in need of hair dresser.
- If you have split ends, don’t pick at them!!! It seriously takes such a toll on your hair and can really slow your growth rate. I’m still working on breaking this habit haha.
- Use a heat protectant before you apply direct heat to your hair. My curling iron gets SO hot and I think my hair would be fried without this protectant!!
