I don’t know about y’all, but there are some weeks when I just feel like I’m all over the place! It seems like some days I look up, it’s already 9pm, and I have about 10 things left on my to-do list that I just didn’t get to. This year has been particularly busy and I’ve felt more scatterbrained than ever… so I knew I needed to re-evaluate where my time, energy, and money were going.
This past Saturday, the weather was beautiful in Colorado, so Ryan and I went for a walk and ended up walking about 5 miles! We talked about a plethora of topics, but one that particularly sparked my interest was how we can make changes in our lives to make it feel like we have more time, or at least make us feel like we are actually in control of our lives.
I’ve been brainstorming what small changes I can make to eliminate the stress of “never having enough time” or “not being able to do XYZ.” Below I’m listing a few things that have been helpful to me as I continue to learn how do to this thing called adulting. ha!
1. Plan out your day
This might sound intimidating / overkill if you aren’t a Type A personality (I like to think I’m between and Type A and Type B haha), but if you are struggling to check everything off your list for the day, it truly is helpful to see how each hour is spent.
For example, I need to work 9 hours at the office each day I’m there, but I’ve found I get super cranky and irritable if I don’t get a workout in. The first step is admitting it lol. I also start to feel stressed out if I work late every night, because I feel like I’m missing out on valuable time at home with my husband. Also I get #hangry.
Maybe you want to make time for an after work activity like a small group or walking your dog before the sun goes down… whatever that thing is that makes you feel good, make time for it!
I am not really a morning person, but I’ve found that if I get to work at 7:30am, take an hour lunch to workout & eat, then I can leave by 5:30. I’m not perfect at sticking to that haha but it is helpful to have a schedule that you know works!
2. Download the “EveryDollar” App
This is just a great way to see exactly where all your money is going. It’s also a good starting point if you are wanting to set up a budget for yourself. You can input your allotted spending money for different categories (i.e. groceries, restaurants, mortgage / rent, fun money, clothing, etc.).
There’s an option within the app to purchase a feature that automatically links your bank account so you don’t have to enter in every transaction, but for me it’s easy enough to do on my own. This has been a helpful tool for me to use as we save up for our kitchen remodel.
3. Stick to your bedtime
Just like when you were a kid! haha. Adults should typically get 7-9 hours of sleep each night.. idk about y’all, but that is not always the case with me! There are some nights I stay up past midnight, and it’s just not healthy!
I have had to learn this the hard way, but going to bed at decent hour sets you up for success the next day. Waking up refreshed is such a nice feeling, and whenever I get a good nights sleep, my day is 100X better.
If you have trouble falling asleep at night, try reading beforehand. Right now I’m reading Beach Club by Elin Hilderbrand (which is honestly so hard to put down!!!) I fall asleep so much faster when I read!
Hopefully these tips will help you if you’re feeling overwhelmed! I don’t think making huge changes is the answer because it seems like drastic life changes never stick. Instead, focus on slight mindset shifts or making one change a week. We are more likely to alter our lifestyle if we implement one small change periodically.
Now onto the outfit! Both my skirt & my heels are on sale for $60, and the skirt could definitely be worn year round. It would look so cute with an oversized sweater and OKT boots in the fall!
Even though it’s a leather skirt, it has a professional look and could be worn to the office. I’m wearing a size small (the XS was too short for my taste!) The silk top is also perfect for the office or date night!
I would love to hear what you do to take control when your life gets hectic! Comment below with your ideas!
Have a great week and as always, thank you for reading!
