How to Keep Your Skin Clear & Hydrated in a Dry Climate

Hey guys! Long time no talk! We’ve been busy finishing up the kitchen. (Countertops were measured yesterday!!!) Anyways, recently on instagram stories I’ve been sharing my skincare struggles / wins with y’all…

FIVE years ago I moved to Colorado, and honestly my skin did NOT adjust well! Tennessee (where I’m from) has pretty high humidity compared to Boulder. I never knew moving to a different climate could effect my pours so dramatically haha. Break outs became the norm. I have been struggling for the past four-ish years to “get my Tennessee skin back.”

The first switch I made in my skincare routine was my face wash. I had been using Cetaphil for like, 10 years (since I was 15), and it took me a while to figure out it was way to harsh for my skin out in Colorado! I wouldn’t say I have sensitive skin at all, but it’s definitely more sensitive in this low-humidity climate.

This face cleanser by First Aid Beauty washes off my make up and makes my skin feel fresh and clean without being over-drying. I use it both morning and night.

I first tried this this exfoliator by dr. brandt about six months ago when I got a free sample from Sephora. Immediately I was hooked and ordered a full size! My skin feels SO smooth after using it. That being said, my skin can only handle the exfoliation one time a week. My dermatologist warned me not to over exfoliate – that will only lead to dry skin! Finding the right balance (once a week for me) makes my skin softer and healthier.

I took my time finding the perfect moisturizer. It seemed like no matter what I tried, I always ended up with both dry patches and oily patches. So NOT a good look! About two months ago, I took a chance and tried the Pheonix Facial Oil by Herbivore. I was hesitant to try a face oil – I mean, wouldn’t that make my face shiny and greasy looking?! NOPE.

I’ve joked that this facial oil has flakes of gold in it because I cannot believe how good it makes my skin feel. Typically, I use 8 drops in the morning and 10 drops at night. It’s extremely hydrating, and it’s completely changed my complexion. I break out wayyy less, and my skin literally looks like it’s glowing after it’s applied. It’s a little pricey, but so worth it. I’ve been using mine for a couple months and you can see in the pics, it’s still pretty full.

Just so y’all know – I also use a Retin A cream that my dermatologist prescribes to help combat break outs.

So this lash enhancing serum by GrandeLASH-MD isn’t really a skincare product but I’ve been loving it lately! In the month I’ve been using it, my lashes have definitely gotten thicker.

So that about sums up my skincare routine! I wouldn’t say you need ten different products to keep you skin clear. It seems like if I stay consistent with my morning and nighttime routine, drink plenty of water, and get to bed by 11pm, my complexion does well. It sounds boring but it works haha!

Have you had issues after moving to a new climate? What has worked for you? Let me know!

xoxo liz
