If you’ve considered painting your doors black.. this is your sign to go for it! Just look at the difference PAINT makes. I was dying to paint my doors downstairs, but I was torn on if I should go dark or neutral. This breakfast nook makeover convinced me that dark is the way to go!
Here’s exactly how I painted these French doors and got crisp paint lines at both the windows and the trim. (Because yes, I decided that the trim needed to be painted too!)

Step 1: Clean windows and apply liquid masking tape
The purpose of the liquid masking tap is to protect the window from getting paint on it. Once applied and dried (and after you’ve painted), you’ll take your utility knife and cut each seam. Then, you’ll use the scraper to peel the dried mask from the window.
My top advice for this step would be to apply the masking liquid much thicker than you think you need to. Really coat it on the windows so that it easily pulls off the surface. If you don’t lay it on thick, it will pull apart as you peel it off the window. It’ll still work, but the process will take much longer! I just brushed it on with a paintbrush.
Step 2: Paint doors & peel back masking tape
This is the most satisfying part! Use both an angled brush and a foam roller to paint the doors. I always follow my brush with a foam roller to avoid the appearance of brush strokes.
Once your paint is dry, use your utility knife to cut each seam, then use the window scraper tool to help peel it back. This part is SO fun!!
Step 4: Decorate!
I wanted this space to feel neutral, earthy, and modern all at the same time. I love how the roman shades compliment the dark doors.
