We *think* we’re officially done with our exterior remodel!!! Landscaping wrapped up about a month ago, and although we are still waiting on those bushes to fill out, it’s DONE! I am sooo thankful to have comfortable grass in our yard. π I grew up in the south where that was a given.. but in CO, you really have to WORK for your grass to be green and lush! (i.e. you have to install sod and water it twice a day. π )
Above is our official BEFORE photo. This is what the house looked like when we bought it! A HUGE (unnecessary?) concrete patio that we never used, a brick wing wall with a lantern (very 70’s), brown brick, cream siding, green shutters, and a brown roof. Oh, and a random walkway right through the middle of the yard. You can’t tell from this picture, but the trim work is actually purple. Purple, green, cream, and brown was their color scheme. lol!
The first thing we did was tear out and re-pour the concrete. We also removed the brick wing wall that blocked the front door, so we had a mason repair that brick. Our driveway was a little cracked (not terribly cracked at all), but to get a cohesive look, we just had allll the concrete re poured at the same time.
Then I whitewashed the brick! Ahhh it makes SUCH A DIFFERENCE and I love it so much. π We also began paining our siding grey and our shutters black.
Click here to read about how exactly we white washed our brick!
We took our time deciding what color we wanted our garage door to be. We were debating between black and white, and for a very short period of time, grey to match our siding. In the photo above, you can see that I photoshopped a black door on our house, and I changed the roof color to dark grey so we could see how that jived.
Ultimately, we decided on white, because it looks fresher and cleaner. Even though the black garage door would have matched our front door and shutters, it was just too bold for us!
Here is our house with a dark grey roof and a black front door! The roof makes a huge difference to the overall appearance of a home. We were lucky – we got hit with hail pretty hard last summer (it actually totaled my car!), so insurance was able to cover our roof replacement. Our deductible was around $1,200 – not too bad for a new roof AND gutters!
We got a record breaking snow storm this spring – 22 inches of snow!! We waited to schedule our landscaping until the snow was mostly done haha.
I love a clean slate. This pic was taken after the landscapers removed all of our old grass.
Here we are today! Lucy LOVES the soft grass haha. Once the front bushes grow in, I think it will look really nice! The bushes are Mountain Lilacs, and they are already blooming beautiful white flowers.
We had the landscapers install a sprinkler system, which is soooo nice. Last summer we (Ryan) drug hoses around ever night to water. It was a hassle! I’m so glad our new sod will stay alive and green.. we just have to pay for a larger water bill, since we water both morning and evening. π
We also made a custom house number sign – the instructions for that can be found HERE.
