WOW can we talk about the difference new floor and paint can make!!! Last weekend I took a crack at installing this waterproof luxury vinyl flooring from Floor & Decor.. It was NOT that hard! Although I was SO sore the next morning. That up and down, up and down, up and down really takes a toll on the legs, but it felt amazing to have installed these with my own two hands.
Here’s a look at the before…
If you’re interested in seeing the step by step process via video, check out my Instagram highlight titled “Guest Bath Reno” on my IG page here.
I thought I’d take you through the process here as well – I personally always appreciate seeing DIY projects typed out!
Step 1 – Remove toilet
This part is the worst! But luckily we get it over with first, right?! I watched a lot of YouTube videos on how to do this. It’s not *that* hard, but I don’t think I could have lifted that toilet on my own because it was so heavy (and I’m 17 weeks pregnant).
Step 2 – Remove old flooring & clean
Wait.. this part is the worst haha! Or maybe just in my case – we had a ton of mold beneath our old flooring since the last owners installed non water proof flooring… in the bathroom. It IS really satisfying to tear up old ugly flooring and get down to a clean slate. 🙂 Speaking of clean, make sure you clean the floors really well. You don’t want the new floors installed over the dirt or it’ll feel like there’s sand underneath your new flooring!
Step 3 – Create a plan for how your flooring will lay and start installing!
It’s really as simple as that! Get a utility knife and score the vinyl wherever you need cuts. I normally score it two or three times, flip it over, and snap it with my hands while using one foot to steady it. (I show you exactly how I do it on my instagram stories! It’s under the highlight titled “Guest Bath Reno.”) This vinyl is pretty easy to work with. You can even do it for tricky cuts! Just use a pair of pliers to break it off.
The vinyl snaps together easily, and I did use a rubber mallet to get a really tight fit.
Step 4 – Install quarter round & silicone
Badda bing badda boom! Just like that you’re done!
Now I just need to decide on a paint color for the vanity! I’m leaning towards Retreat by Sherwin Williams.
What do you think? Would you try installing floors?! My advice would be to get help taking out / installing the toilet. Ours was heavy!!
