Happy Wednesday y’all!

Since moving to Colorado, I have spent most of my time working out.. outside! I love to run outside and take in the mountain & lake views. When there’s not snow on the ground, I enjoy my BBG workouts (more on those soon) in our yard or on the lawn by my office!

I’ve been to concerts at Red Rocks Amphitheater before (and saw Miranda Lamber there OMG), but Ryan and I have never gone to just hang out and explore the area. The other week during our staycation to Golden, we got to play around the area. It was a cold day, so we raced each other up to the top.. it’s a workout y’all! I thought BBG was paying off but somehow Ryan still beat me to the top lol.

That’s one of things I love about Colorado – going on a hike can be relaxing, but it’s still a workout. It’s definitely easy to live an active lifestyle here! Our first Valentine’s Day together, Ryan and I hiked to Royal Arch (it’s part of the Flatirons). The views were so pretty and it’s a fun way to change up date night / day.

If you follow me on Instagram, then you know that I started Kayla Itsines’s BBG (Bikini Body Guide) workout this January and have been doing it consistently since then. I wanted to lay out the program for y’all and let you know what I think so far.

Why I started BBG

I actually started this program because I kept seeing her workouts on Instagram, and they looked so fun. Also, I LOVED the music she played with her workout videos on Instagram! If I was getting motivated just by seeing a 60 seconds of a workout, I figured I better give it a shot.

I also haaaate running in the cold / on a treadmill, so my motivation to run during the winter is low to none haha. I wanted a program or a friend that would hold me accountable for working out. IDK about y’all, but my mood is 10000x better when I get my endorphins up! When I go 3-4 days without working out, I can feel myself getting kinda down! SO, once I saw that BBG has a calendar built into the app, I knew it would motivate me to “check” those workouts off each day.

Another reason I’ve been able to stick with this program is the fact that you can do it anywhere. Some days you’ll need a bench or a medicine ball, but those are easy to find or improvise haha. I love that I can be in my living room and get in a killer workout, and the only “equipment” I need is a coffee table!

what is BBG?

BBG is basically three “resistance” workouts a week & three LISS (low intensity steady state – like walking) or HIIT (high intensity interval training) cardio workouts.

Below is the schedule I stick to:

  • Monday: leg day
  • Tuesday: 30 minutes of LISS cardio
  • Wednesday: arms & abs
  • Thursday: 30 minutes of LISS cardio
  • Friday: full body workout
  • Saturday: 30 minutes of LISS cardio
  • Sunday: Rehabilitation (stretching)

TBH I have not incorporated HIIT cardio into my workouts yet, but it is something that I want to do! I have incorporated the “challenges” into my weekly routine. The challenges are about 10-20 minutes long, so they are quick & easy to fit in during my day. They’re also a fun way to mix up my workouts! Challenges are built into the app, and you can choose from tons of different types.

Verdict: BBG is hard, but it is worth it.

I am almost always sore from it haha, and the workouts are different enough every week that I don’t get sick of it. Check out one of my favorite workout playlists here. It’s one I found online, and I love how upbeat it is!

What’s your favorite workout?! Have you tried BBG before? If so, let me know! I’d love to hear about your experience!

Thanks for reading! <3
