This transformation is one that I have been REALLY excited to share! As you can see in the before pic below, we did some serious work on this space. When we bought our fixer upper, there was a wall that separated our entryway from the kitchen. The kitchen was a very small, dark room with CARPET as flooring. Gross!
We did a complete kitchen renovation (like we didn’t keep anything from the old kitchen haha), and I was so glad to get this door painted! It really tied our color scheme together.
Since I am a structural engineer, I knew that none of the walls we wanted to remove were structural. (i.e. the walls weren’t supporting the roof!) I made sure of this before we closed on the home, because I did not want to have to hire someone to install a beam. More labor = more $$$ = not happy Liz.
We did several updates to this space including:
- flooring
- paint
- retextured the popcorn ceilings
- new doors (interior doors only)
- door hardware
- moulding
I would love to replace that ceiling light.. we just haven’t got around to it yet.
Originally I was just going to paint the door white, but then I thought it could be cool to match the front door to our kitchen island paint color, which is Rocky Mountain Sky by Behr.
I posted a poll on my Instagram stories asking if we should paint the door white or Rocky Mountain Sky. (ps – y’all can follow along with the day-to-day projects on my stories!) Most of y’all voted that I painted it Rocky Mountain Sky, however… a few of y’all reached out and suggested I paint the door a darker blue that would compliment the island color. Our backsplash is a really close match to Rocky Mountain Sky, too, so it would compliment the backsplash as well!
I tested out several colors: Rainy Season, Peaceful Blue, and Dolphin Blue. (all by Behr Pain)
We ended up choosing Rainy Season by Behr paint and I looove it! It’s different in the best way. It adds a pop of color, but at the same time it really does tie in our island and backsplash color.
If you’re trying to change up your entryway, maybe consider switching up your front door interior color! All I needed was one sample size of matte paint, which cost me about $5. It needed two coats of paint, which took me about an hour. It’s definitely a cheap and quick project. 🙂
Thanks for reading!
I love it! Makes it look so much brighter!
